Together transforming wildfire management in Canada

A platform created to connect the dots.

Canada is increasingly experiencing severe wildfires from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Addressing this challenge requires a multifaceted strategy that incorporates the acceleration of technology implementation and innovation, respects and integrates Indigenous knowledge and practices, and promotes adaptive forest management. The Wildfire Resilience Consortium of Canada (WRCC) aims to unify these elements to create a transformative approach to wildfire management for the country and beyond.

Through the place-based knowledge mobilization network, the technology and innovation accelerator and a core focus on Indigenous fire stewardship and long term land management, WRCC will be the bridge that leads us to enhanced resilience against wildfires. The WRCC's approach is holistic, collaborative, and adaptive, ensuring that Canada is better prepared for and resilient to the growing wildfire threat.

Location & Eligibility

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates across Canada; however, each Regional Coordinator must reside within the ecoregion they will represent. There are six Regional Coordinator roles available, each corresponding to one of the following place-based Wildfire Knowledge Networks:

  • Cordillera Pacific Network
  • Taiga Network
  • Prairie Network
  • Boreal West Network
  • Boreal East Network
  • Atlantic Maritime Network

These networks are aligned with Canada’s terrestrial ecozones and fire regimes. To determine your eligibility and see which ecoregion you live in, please consult the ecoregion map.

If you live within one of these regions and are passionate about wildfire resilience and knowledge sharing, we encourage you to apply.

Primary Focus:

The WRCC is establishing region specific knowledge networks in each of Canada’s unique terrestrial ecozones, where landscapes, fuel types, fire characteristics, human dimensions and infrastructure realities demand specific wildfire resilience strategies. These place-based networks will have a local coordinator and develop an understanding of the people, wildfire challenges and mitigation/management opportunities in their region and then work to shape, amplify and share local solutions. The Regional Coordinators are important agents of change, both knowledge translators (adult educators and outreach specialists) and knowledge brokers -Intermediaries that build collaboration and understanding. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of wildfire management and mitigation strategies in their region and have an existing network of Indigenous partners, community leaders and knowledge exchange organizations.

How to apply:

To apply, combine your cover letter and resume into a single PDF. In your cover letter, please indicate which ecoregion you are applying for. Submit your application at: jobs.peoplefirsthr.com
